Design and Specification of Structural Glazing

Face to Face Seminar
Design, construction and technology

Description

This CPD, available in the London area, outlines the approach to the design and specification of structural glazing where the design intent very often requires a more non-standard or bespoke engineered glazing solution. This will include an overview of the glass manufacturing process from a raw material to a finished structural application and explain the considerations that need to be made when designing various structural elements. This is illustrated through a variety of case studies from balustrades to self-supporting structures. The presentation will also cover suitable glass types, heat loss and solar gain as well as the importance of identifying key processes in installation. This seminar will help you to understand the following topics: - Understand how glass is made, the limitations in manufacturing and how to identify the correct glass for your application - Understand how glass is strengthened through heat and lamination - Understand what happens when glass breaks and how to improve thermal performance - Understand various structural glazing applications and the challenges they present - Understand typical installation sequences including an introduction to access and lifting equipment
