This seminar outlines the essential considerations that must be given to all brickwork to accommodate movement, the largest contributor being expansion and contraction due to changes in temperature, along with irreversible moisture expansion. The presentation examines the requirement for movement joints in modern brickwork construction, together with the movement characteristics of brick, which influence the location of movement joints. The seminar also discusses recommendations for movement joint fillers, sealants, and wall ties in relation to current standards and looks at the importance of the influence of other materials in the outer leaf.
