Description

Many buildings require the creation of fire-rated internal walls and very often there is a need to create a penetration through the wall to allow for building services such as pipes, ducts and cables. The creation of these penetrations can impact the resilience of the fire-rated wall and it is therefore imperative that correct design of the wall and the penetrations is understood. Adhering to the correct design will ensure the integrity of the wall is maintained.

The purpose of this CPD presentation is to understand the regulatory framework governing the design and construction of service penetrations in fire-rated walls. Regulations and building codes exist to maintain the fire resistance of compartment walls. It explores the principles of compartmentation (how to divide a building into smaller, fire-resistant sections to slow the spread of fire and smoke) and it takes an in-depth look at four typical partition systems. These systems have been extensively tested and the CPD will demonstrate how to understand fire test performance data. This will allow you to make informed decisions about selecting and specifying fire-rated partitions for various applications.

In summary, the CPD will allow you will have a strong understanding of the regulations, compartmentation principles, tested partition systems, and installation best practices for fire-rated walls. This knowledge will help you ensure compliance, improve fire safety, and make informed choices in your project.
