The correct selection, identification and preparation of backgrounds and substrates, together with the correct selection and use of tile adhesives is critical to ensuring a successful installation. This CPD looks at how to specify backgrounds and substrates suitable for the intended purpose and how to correctly prepare them prior to the fixing of ceramic tiles. It also looks at how to specify and apply tile adhesives in accordance with British and European standards and surrounding legislation. In addition it looks at the specification of environmentally friendly tile adhesives. By the end of this CPD delegates ought to: 1. Have achieved a thorough understanding of how to specify tile adhesives, when faced with common backgrounds and bases. 2. Be able to identify the watch points which can lead to common tiling failures and how to avoid them. 3. Understand the importance of the correct identification and preparation of background and bases. 4. Understand the importance of the correct product selection of tile types and specification of fixing materials. 5. Understand the correct installation practices in accordance with British and European standards and surrounding legislation.
