Effective design within the mental health sector can be a complex and challenging subject, with numerous important factors to consider. Service-user and staff requirements are constantly evolving alongside new methods of treatment, innovative technological advancements, key legislation, environmental improvements and other measures, with the objective of reducing inpatient suicide and injury, whilst aiding recovery. This CPD has been created to review the design and specification process for doorsets and architectural hardware, encapsulating all of the above, highlighting the key subjects that all stakeholders may need to consider, in order to achieve that objective. By the end of the CPD you should have a greater understanding of: - Product design and innovation - past and present - out-dated products versus new technology. - The importance of co-production, consultation and co-operation for all stakeholders. - The stages of the design and specification process. - What results can be achieved through effective consultation, design and implementation. - The future - new innovations.
