Description

This pre-recorded seminar deals with the problem on not being able to tile a floor above another living space because of the risk of increasing noise pollution to the rooms below. A tiled floor can increase the impact sound transmission by upto 5dB.

This CPD focusses on specifying the right tile backer board and in particular acoustic tile backer boards. Its scope and learning objectives are: -

  • How isolating movement in the substrate (de-coupling) prevents tiles from cracking.
  • The problems associated with moisture ingress behind tiling and how to avoid it.
  • How to solve cold problems caused tiling floors and meet part E of England’s Building Regulations and Section 5 of the Scottish Building Standards
  • An overview of the different types of noise pollution and how sound travel through different materials.
  • Why tiling floors above other living spaces often results in noise pollution.
  • How to solve noise pollution issues and meet the impact sound transmission.
  • Allowable routes to compliance: 1) Example Constructions (Building Regulations), 2) Robust Details and similar, 3) Acoustic tile backer boards.

This CPD is available as an on-demand, prerecorded presentation
